DMCC is the free zone with the biggest name. That name has a value for some UK founders and is wasted on others. This page sets out what DMCC offers, from its own website as at October 2026, and who it fits. For the wider comparison, see the free zone hub.
Who DMCC suits
- Commodity and physical traders: DMCC runs sector communities for gold, diamonds, coloured gemstones, tea, coffee, energy and more.
- Tech, crypto and blockchain, AI, gaming and financial services businesses, all of which DMCC lists as ecosystems.
- UK founders whose clients, investors or counterparties will look up the company before they sign.
- Holding companies, SPVs and family offices: DMCC has dedicated setups for each (see UAE holding companies and family offices).
DMCC suits you less if you are a solo consultant on a tight budget, where IFZA or Meydan do the same job.
DMCC at a glance
- Location: Jumeirah Lake Towers and Uptown Dubai.
- Members: more than 26,000 registered companies from more than 180 countries.
- Activities: DMCC's home page says 1,000+ licensed activities in one place and 900+ business activities in another.
- Company types: a new company (individual or subsidiary) or a branch. A Free Zone Company needs at least one shareholder, a director and a company secretary; one person can hold both roles.
- Tax status: DMCC states that businesses operating in the free zone can benefit from a 0% corporate tax rate on qualifying income, as set by the relevant Cabinet and Ministerial decisions. Whether your income qualifies is a separate test (see who pays the 9%).
Visas
DMCC is clear on this: the number of visas you can apply for depends on the size of your office space and the type of licence you hold. A flexi-desk suits a founder with minimal space needs. If you plan to hire, or a co-founder needs a visa, you take more space from the start. Your spouse and children come on your visa as dependants (family sponsorship).
Office
Every DMCC company needs a registered business address inside DMCC. The options run from flexi-desk and serviced office to dedicated workspace and private offices, fitted or shell and core. Pick the office for the visas you need over the next year or two.
Timeline
- Use DMCC's setup wizard or your adviser to get a package proposal.
- Submit the online pre-approval application.
- Pay and sign documents on the DMCC portal.
- Choose your office solution.
- Receive the e-licence. DMCC says the process typically takes around 10 working days; its FAQ says the e-licence follows 2 to 3 working days after setup completes.
The residence visa and bank account follow and need you in the UAE. See how long setup takes.
Banking
DMCC asks for a bank reference or capital deposit confirmation as part of the application, so you need a bank relationship in mind early. It names Wio Bank as a partner offering instalment options on its own terms. In our experience DMCC companies generally open accounts without trouble when the file is complete, because banks know the zone well. Our banking service prepares that file, and which UAE bank compares the main banks.
How we set up a DMCC company from the UK
We start with your activity and your visa plan, because those set the DMCC office you need, and the office is a large part of the cost. You get one all-in price. We gather DMCC's document list, including proof of address and the beneficial owner details, file the pre-approval, and take you through the portal signing from the UK. Once the e-licence is out, we book your medical, Emirates ID and bank meetings into one trip. On the UK side, we check that the way you plan to run the company will not make it UK tax resident (central management and control). See our company formation service.
Questions people ask
What is DMCC?
DMCC, the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, is a Dubai free zone based in Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) and Uptown Dubai. As at October 2026 it reports more than 26,000 registered companies from more than 180 countries and says it is a nine-time winner of the Global Free Zone of the Year award.
How long does DMCC company setup take?
DMCC says its process typically takes around 10 working days, depending on documents and approvals. The steps are an online pre-approval application, payment and document signing on the DMCC portal, choosing an office solution, then the e-licence.
How many visas can a DMCC company get?
DMCC states that the number of visas you can apply for is set by the size of your office space and the type of licence you hold. A flexi-desk suits a founder with minimal space needs; more visas need more space. Decide your visa count before you choose the office.
Can I set up a DMCC company from the UK?
Yes. DMCC says the process can be completed online and that many member companies are run remotely. If you want a UAE residence visa through the company, you need to visit the UAE for the medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics.
What documents does DMCC ask for?
DMCC lists passports, proof of residential address such as a utility bill or bank statement, the shareholding structure and constitutional documents, the proposed company name and activities, the office lease, a bank reference or capital deposit confirmation, and beneficial owner details for anyone with 25% or more ownership or control. It may ask for more depending on the activity.
Is DMCC worth it compared with IFZA or Meydan?
DMCC is worth it when the name helps you win or keep business: trading, commodities, and clients or counterparties who will check your company. For a solo UK consultant whose clients buy their expertise, IFZA or Meydan usually do the job with a simpler setup.
How much does a DMCC company cost to set up?
DMCC costs depend on the licence, the office solution and the visa count, and in our experience DMCC sits at the higher end of the market. We quote one all-in price for your setup rather than publishing authority fees.
